What Is the Deal With Taiwan?

What Is the Deal With Taiwan?

Top US Senator Tom Cotton Explains

According to a lot of recent news accounts China is in turmoil as a result of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s pollical attempts to revert the country back to the Chinese Communist Party model of Mao Zedong, who lived from December 26, 1893 – September 9, 1976.

Cultural Revolution, upheaval was launched by Chinese Communist Party Chairman Zedong during his last decade in power (1966-76) to renew the spirit of the Chinese Revolution. Fearing that China would develop along the lines of the Soviet model and concerned about his own place in history, Mao threw China’s cities into turmoil in a monumental effort to reverse the historic processes underway.

Millions of People Died from these Misguided Authoritarian Polices

We in the west cannot know what is today really happening inside the notoriously closed country of China, but many reports are coming out saying economic and political chaos are leading to desperate measures.

China has more than 4,000 years of sometimes chaotic history.

From this story:
Flying from Washington DC to Asia, any airplane must refuel in Alaska, making this military outpost of USA the middleman in any coming geopolitical dispute between East and West.

China’s Betrayal of Hong Kong

From a previous story:
Prior to Hong Kong’s transfer to Chinese sovereignty in 1997, people in the territory were promised that rights and freedoms would be ensured under Hong Kong and international law. Over the next two decades, people used peaceful means to press for these rights, but the Hong Kong and Beijing governments have repeatedly backtracked on those empty promises. In February 2019, Hong Kong authorities proposed legal revisions allowing criminal suspects to be extradited to mainland China, where due process rights are routinely violated. This prompted massive, largely peaceful protests starting in June. While authorities scrapped the revisions, –they ignored other demands, including for an investigation into excessive use of force by the police–while imposing new restrictions on expression and assembly.

from that story:
USA and Philippines have fought side-by-side against aggressors to preserve freedom before. A coalition of Asian nations is now forming to stand together in this region against China aggression while China appears willing to team with bad actors, Russia and North Korea to try and intimidate its neighbors. This is unfortunate.

Hong Kong was once an economic powerhouse, but capital is being withdrawn from that economy because of political instability caused by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Likewise, Taiwan is also a major economic tech manufacturing island located between Philippines and mainland China which the CCP would like to further exploit.

The country (China) continues to suffer from sluggish consumer spending – at around 40%, this is significantly below the level in many advanced economies as well as in China’s middle-income peers. Indeed, figures from late April revealed the biggest drop in export orders since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Today China is Pushing Boundaries

MANILA Video obtained by ABS-CBN News on Wednesday showed a small Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessel appearing to ram a Philippine boat during a resupply mission to Ayungin shoal last June 17.

The video from an ABS-CBN source showed at least two CCG vessels that appeared to be chasing the Philippine boat. One of the Chinese vessels sailed too close on the side of the Philippine boat, ending up in a slight collision.

What Does China’s Belligerence Mean?

In his book, Seven Things You Can’t Say About China, US Senator Tom Cotton describes what is known will happen if the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were to invade Taiwan:

According to Bloomberg Economics, a war in Taiwan would wipe out $10 trillion in wealth worldwide. The American economy would shrink by much more than it did in the Great Recession of 2008. No one today has lived through such an economic collapse…The pain and hardship would be severe for all Americans. P175

Cotton further explains:
This economic catastrophe would result in no small part from Taiwan’s unique role in the global semiconductor industry. Taiwan manufacturers around 60 percent of the world’s semiconductors and 90 percent of the world’s most advanced semiconductors…Any war, regardless of the outcome, would immediately disrupt these supply chains and likely destroy most of the chip factories. P176

The Scenario is worse for China’s Neighbors

…lack(ing) Japan’s wealth to support a military buildup…the Philippines would struggle to defend its main islands, to say nothing of the smaller islands claimed by China. In short order, more than a half billion people in Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and other nations in Southeast Asia would fall into a vast Chinese sphere of influence…the CCP could use economic carrots and sticks to keep them in line.P179

China could defeat America in the global struggle for mastery; it all starts and ends with Taiwan. p185

Conservative Alaskans might consider contacting the office of Sen. Cotton. Tell them you heard about his capabilities in dealing with important national policy issues and appreciate his big picture views on behalf of the people of Arkansas.

How Did the West Allow China To Become Such a Threat?

This writer’s interest in Taiwan began upon flying to Philippines with a 10-hr layover in the Taiwan  capital of Taipei. I flew on an Asian airline and marveled that I have now visited China!

But make no mistake about the problematic relationships to the CCP of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Tibet since the days of Mao. Current President Xi Jinping is no better for the people of China or for any national hope of world peace and simple coexistence.

Further, dependence upon the manufacturing power of China has brought Western Civilizations to its present economic subservience. President Trump’s Tariffs are designed  to bring balance.

From that story:
United States Trade Representative (USTR), Robert Lighthizer negotiated against pretend capitalist Chinese Communist apparatchiks, who continually reneged on negotiated terms until their feet were held to the fire.

China is an evil empire. The CCP has victimized the Chinese people for more than a century, according to Cotton’s informative, well referenced, and easy to read book. Tens of millions of Chinese people have been slaughtered and hundreds of millions prevented from ever being born through government-enforced sterilizations and abortions. An Orwellian Police state digitally catalogues the estimated 1.6 billion persons for easy monitoring or apprehension by CCP.

Under Xi China has returned to Mao’s policy of reckless aggression and already has the largest (but untested) military on earth. This reality is very clear to neighboring Asian countries including Philippines subjected to China bullying.

American Reality

CCP has long waged a world economic war, destroying millions of American jobs, shutting tens of thousands of factories, and stealing trillions of dollars of intellectual property, according to Cotton. China is also using its vast economic power to dominate and extort countries around the globe.

CCP has infiltrated Western Civilization and has influenced everything we hear, read and see for at least one generation. CCP has also become embedded in governments of western civilization from local to federal levels.

According to Sen. Cotton:
America has failed to Confront Communist China for many reasons; one reason is Beijing’s corrupt influence over American public officials and their families. P9

Haven’t Heard Much about China from

Sen. Murkowski

Poling of Cotton’s constituent’s shows confronting the threat of Chinese Communism is one of Arkansas voter’s highest priorities.

By Contrast, China is Alaska’s largest trading partner after USA, and you can bet Alaska’s Senior Senator will enable this relationship as long as possible despite China belligerence including hacking into State computers, sailing warships inside our economic zone, and even floating a spy balloon over our state.

From that story:
Indeed, the rise of China to global economic prominence, and its growing need for natural resources to support that rapid growth, has translated directly into success for Alaska exports and the state’s economy generally. Many thousands of jobs across the state, for example, are tied to the export of commodities and services to China and other important markets.

Alaska’s Senior Senator is an Embarrassment

Imagine if AK Sen. Murkowski DID CARE what a majority of her constituents want? Her stature–as the unworthy appointee of her father, former Sen. Frank Murkowski, upon his election as governor–continues to decline. Alaskans have learned Murkowski was one of the architects of Ranked Choice Voting after she had been primaried by the AK Republican Party.

From the story:
If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Confuse ‘Em

A referendum launched by members of the various Combined Parties and former staff of U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski was passed after the 2000 election, resulting in implementation of Jungle Primary>Ranked Choice Voting in the 2022 election.

But Wait, There’s More!

Sen. Murkowski has written a book, too! Here is YOUR chance to learn how much smarter this elected official is than the fools who elect her, and what a victim she is representing far away Alaska in Washington, DC.

Murkowski’s whines could be a hoot but not worth $28. Cotton’s book has inherent value.

After RCV is repealed Murkowski needs to go next.
